AUGUST 25, 2011 - WHERE DO WE GROW FROM HERE?
In an effort to control urban growth and enable orderly development, regional planners have designated a series of urban and rural reserves around the Portland metropolitan region. Seven areas now being considered for urban expansion are on the westside. Even if all of these areas are approved, this will only be a 1.5 percent expansion of the existing UGB - A place whree housing and jobs can locate over the next 20 years. The question remains, how much of our region's growth can occur inside the UGB, and where should the boundary be expanded to create new neighborhoods and employment centers.
To discuss these timely issues, Westside Economic Alliance and the Clackamas County Business Alliance invite you to attend an extended Breakfast Forum, focusing on our region's land use policies. Join us on Thursday, August 25 at the West End Building in Lake Oswego when we will welcome our guest speakers Metro President Tom Hughes, Port of Portland executive director Bill Wyatt, Hillsboro Mayor Jerry Willey, Wilsonville Mayor Tim Knapp, Beaverton Economic Development Director Don Mazziotti and Todd Britsch, president of New Home Trends, a data and research service for residential real estate markets in the Pacific Northwest.
See what both the public and private sector can do right now to help businesses realize economic and ecological benefits of producing more with less.
